“As the holiday season and tax season approach, everyone should remember to take basic steps to protect themselves,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said.
So, to help individual and business taxpayers fight back against identity thieves, the IRS has partnered with the Security Summit and recommends taking the following measures to safeguard personal information:
During Tax Security Awareness Week, the IRS will share additional steps for easily recognizing email and phone scams, detecting identity theft attempts, and creating strong passwords for online accounts, so stay tuned.
